Manhatta - Charles Scheeler and Paul Strand, 1921

Manhatta is a silent film produced by Charles Scheeler(painter) and Paul Strand(photographer). The film portraits a typical day in the early 20th century of Manhattan in New York. It is also known as the first avant-garde film produced in the United States.

When watching the film, it gives me a feeling of a normal urban life. It is a non-narrative structure film with some subtitles for the transition. The film starts with a ferry filled with commuters who came into New York City, and the film ends with a sunset over Hudson River. The film shows a day in the life of the city by recording the relationship between human, transportations and buildings.
